CLASSROOM GUIDELINES (for parents):
Classroom snacks: We ask each student to bring in snack for one full week, for the entire class, twice a year. Our room parent will notify you when and how to sign up. We ask that snacks are healthy and easy to distribute and eat. Currently there are 24 students in the class. It takes roughly 2 boxes/bags of crackers (graham crackers, cheese nips, etc.) and 12 large pieces of fresh fruit (apples, oranges, bananas, etc.) to cover snack for a week. When sending fresh fruit, sending 6 pieces on Monday and another 6 pieces on Wednesday helps keep food from spoiling before it can be used. Please do NOT send: cookies, foods that need to be refrigerated, or foods that the kids would need a fork or spoon to eat. But if you need to send it all on Monday, it will be fine.

Questions? Please contact class parents Susan Plaza.
Visiting for Lunch: Parents are welcome to join their child for lunch any time beginning in mid- to late October. (We reserve the first 6-8 weeks of school preparing the student for being away from the home, so we do not want the parent coming in to cause a distraction or relapse in progress towards greater independence.) Weather permitting, we eat outside of the classroom on picnic blankets and small tables most of the year; otherwise, we eat in the school cafeteria. A visiting parent needs to follow school visiting rules before coming to the classroom, which consists of logging in to the security system located in the main office and wearing a printed visitor badge. Lunch takes places 11:45-12:15 pm.
Montessori preparedness: The Montessori classroom is a very organized environment with many materials not yet familiar to our incoming students. We spend the first 6-8 weeks of school preparing the student for how to use these materials and how the class is run on a daily basis. Additionally, we greatly value the importance of the Montessori philosophy of "grace and courtesy." You will hears these words many times in these first few weeks and then it will become habit throughout the students' years at Park Road Montessori and beyond. We ask that you refrain from visiting the school during this 6-8 week period so that the child is able to grow independently. We will send out communication when visiting for lunch or just to observe in the classroom is permitted; and we welcome it!
Student birthdays: A child's birthday is certainly something to celebrate! In our classroom, we welcome the parent to come into the class to participate in a wonderful birthday ceremony led by birthday boy or girl. You are welcome to bring in a treat to share with the class, which we usually distribute after lunch. Please contact Ms. Maggie a few days ahead so that time is set aside for the ceremony.
Classroom communication: Our school does an excellent job of communicating school-wide events and PTO business. If you are not subscribed to the weekly e-bulletin, we highly encourage you to do - sign up via the Park Road Montessori web site maintained by the PTO. For classroom specific "news" we do our best to send out weekly updates and announcements via email, including short video clips; likewise, our room parent will send out email messages as needed. As much as possible, we send out photos and short video clips to individual families throughout the year.
